Alan Camp
Business Development Director
Alan Camp is South African, HSE professional with more than 20 years proven experience and track record of establishing both national and international SHEQ Standards for Construction Projects, Commissioning and Operational environments. Having started his career in the fire department of a paper industry in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal and very soon thereafter, found himself in the Disaster Management Centre of a petrochemical refinery, where his career expanded further. With many short term and long term successful projects under his belt, Alan has acquired a number of qualifications including completing his, IOSH in the United Arab Emirates, NEBOSH (UK) to name a few. Alan has actively participated in a number of international projects, including in countries such as Dubai, Bahrain, France, Morocco, Kenya, Zambia, Mozambique and Swaziland. As a member of various Occupational Health and Safety Institutions, in South Africa and internationally, Alan has assisted many projects towards completion, with an end result of a ZERO LOST TIME record. Alan can be proud of a career that has given him exposure to the front lines of many industries, including Renewable Energy, Solar and Wind. With all these achievements, Alan’s heart beat lies in community upliftment.
As a founder member of “Change”, a work started by him, with the sole purpose of improving the lives of others, Alan was given the 2017, Mayors Nominee Award, from the Saldanha Bay Municipality Mayor, Hon. Marius Koen, for his more than 10 years-service to the Saldanha Bay community, while also working at a local steel manufacturing company as an OHS HOD, in a full-time capacity. As a Director of the Northern Cape, “Touch4Change” NGO, Alan has not stopped working and reaching out to those in need. In Alan’s own words, “I will never stop reaching out to any person, family or community in need, because it’s a constant reminder of where I come from. Many in my own family could not even finish high school due to poverty and the circumstances that we had to face back then, so I was proud of the fact that I could make my late parents proud by completing my schooling and making something of myself, opposite to the life of crime, drugs, alcohol abuse and gangsterism that I was surrounded by in my community”. Pressed to answer how did he actually do it and what was his secret weapon? Alan had only this to say, “Every child must go further in life than their parents did. Reading books kept me in the library and off the streets. Reading painted a different picture of life, as compared to the life I knew, and I wanted that life, it all starts with education. Keep on believing in yourself, keep doing good, and arm yourself with the right attitude, so that you can fly at the right altitude, surrounded by like-minded people who keep helping you, pushing you to do better, irrespective of the challenges of life that we face every day”.
